About Me

As a sophomore in high school I took a photojournalism class because I liked photography at the time. I made some great friends and at the end of the year we all decided to take yearbook together the next year because we had so much fun. In yearbook, I was first able to interview students for the first time. I loved it. I loved getting to ask about their lives and what they were passionate about. And I loved being able to relay that passion to others through my writing.

Despite only a year of experience, my teacher gave me the co-editor-in-chief position my senior year and I was able to expand my horizons further as I learned more about management, copy editing and design. It led me to the School of Journalism at UT.

While at UT, I never lost my love of sharing stories. But, I did find a new passion in data as well. With my certificate in Elements of Computing and my position as a data journalism fellow, I get to explore a more analytical side of reporting. Throughout middle school and high school, my education was very STEM oriented and the data side of journalism allows me to tie together my STEM background with my love of telling stories.

The area I am most passionate about is environmental journalism as I believe it is the story of the century. Climate change is an issue that affects every single human (and living thing) on the planet. Working with the Beaumont, I was able to culminate this passion for the environment, my data skills, and my reporting to cover the top emitters in Southeast Texas in this story

I want to help people through my writing. I believes it is the job of journalists to help tell the stories for those who can’t, provide education to the public through accuracy and truth and hold people accountable.
